Heart of Borneo River Cruise Adventures

Heart of Borneo River Cruising is an adventurous activity exploring the upper Kapuas, Bungan river and Langau River. This is some days river (wet) expedition by traditional wooden longboat cross some advantages such as rapids, narrow-shallow River, sunny, etc. Abandon or active traditional farming, traditional and semi traditional gold mining, and longhouse will give another impressive view while the journey. Caving in historical-sacred cave of Punan Dayak, trekking in to the jungle of the Heart of Borneo and point wild life in their original habitat will give you a unforgettable memory.

itinerary
DAY 1: Pontianak - Putussibau
One hour air access by planes of 42 passengers from Pontianak to Putussibau. Tropical rain forest, Kapuas River, and some shifting cultivation point can be shown from the plane. From the airport, the trip continues to the Hotel. Overnight at the hotel (D)

DAY 2: Putussibau – Nanga Bungan Village
To day, another 6 hours upstream the Kapuas River by using traditional longboat is needed to reach Bungan Village. Exploring upper Kapuas river all day by passing some rapids, sometime we should out of the boat to pull the boat passing some shallow river or walking through the river bank while the motorist and his boat navigator manage the long boat to pass rapids. The trip also passes some longhouses of Dayak Taman. Having lunch on the river bank while observing the landscape will give us another impressive. Overnight stay. ( B,L, D )

DAY 3: Nanga Bungan Village – Tanjung Lokang
Exploring Bungan river to reach the upper village of Dayak Punan that named Tanjung Lokang. Landscape, flora and fauna, and rapids will excite. The trip will spend 2,5 hour if the river is flood. In the dry season, all of longboat passengers should walk on the shallow river by stepping on the rock pulling the boat together in about 6-7 hours, Rest and explore the village( B, L, D)

DAY 4: Explore Kaung Cave - Buung Village
To reach the historical and artistic cave (in the local language Diang Kaung), we have to do jungle trekking in about 3-4 hours. On the way, the participants will see the farm (ladang) of Punan tribe. The participants will be able to see the mountains in some point. In the cave we can find an old cemetery of Dayak Punan. Some sculls can be seen. With the local guide, the participants can explore in and around the cave. After having lunch the trip continues to reach Dusun Marang (Bu’ung village) overnight in the village. ( B, L, D )

DAY 5: Buung Village – Monyaroi River Mouth
After breakfast, trip continue heading up Langau River. Cross some stone inside the river by traditional longboat gives another experience and need adventurous spirit. Hanging tent will be constructed on flat area to spend the night in. As the sun sets the jungle awakes and you will hear the amazing sounds of the nightly jungle life. Overnight stay. (B,L,D)

DAY 6: Monyaroi River Mouth – Salt Spring Sepan
Start from the camp, jungle trekking start to reach Menyaroi salt spring in about 6 hour. Tent for overnight should be constructed. After taking a rest the animal watching start If you are lucky you can encounter the Bornean Gibbon (Hylobates muelleri and H. agilis), the Rhinoceros Hornbill (Buceros rhinoceros), the Giant Squirrel (Ratufa affinis) and a great variety of birds. You also have an opportunity to watch wild big mammals in their natural habitat (salt spring such as the Bearded Pig (Sus barbatus), the Lesser Mouse-Deer (Tragulus javanicus), the Greater Mouse-Deer (Tragulus napu) or the Sambar Deer (Cervus unicolor) drinking the mineral water at the sepan. DAY 7: Salt Spring Camp – Jungle Camping
It is time to trek back to Monyaroi river mouth. From the river mouth the longboat will carry down the river. Sense the rainforest of Borneo (landscape, pure water, canopy, flora diversity (liana and orchid). While the river journey the participants can joint with the local to catch fishes traditionally. As the sun sets the tent need to construct- cook your fishes a spend your night with the hunting and gathering local people (Punan) in the jungle and feel the life in slowly seconds. (All boards)

DAY 8: Jungle Camping - Tanjung Lokang
After breakfast, you will leave jungle to reach Tanjung Lokang village. River journey down Langau river to reach Akit river mouth. Before coming to Akit river mouth, you will pass Bu’ung village then from Akit river mouth you have to do trekking to reach Tanjung Lokang village. Overnight at the guest house of Tanjung Lokang (B, L,D)

DAY 9: Tanjung Lokang – Nanga Bungan – Putussibau
After breakfast, trip back to Putussibau by traditional wooden longboat, check in to the hotel (B,L,D)

DAY 10: Putussibau - Flight to Pontianak
Explore the livelihodd of the community of Putussibau (city tour, traditional market and souvenir shop). Check in to the Airport and fly to Pontianak. (B,L)
