Crossing Borneo Indonesia Cross Borneo

Borneo Jungle Trekking Expeditions

Cross Borneo is the most challenging jungle trekking in the tropical rainforest of Borneo. The journey will pass a hilly and mountainous area crossing the border of West to East Kalimantan. Cross Borneo is the activity that follows a historical expedition route of a Dutch botanist, DR. Anton W. Niewenhius in 1894.

The vegetation in the jungle is diverse and therefore you encounter different animals at different locations. Borneo has a very wet climate, the hydrology in the expedition area is unique with hundreds of streams. Two famous rivers* on each side will offer different landscapes, and adventure experiences.

This Special Interest Tour is offering the real life in two parts of Borneo land. Meet the local people; pass some wilds rapids, walks through the river; mud; rocks; and hills in the deep of primary rain forest. For meals, you will taste local food and jungle menu. During trekking we use fresh water from nature source and stay in simple tent …. No luxury

Experience the ultimate challenge by traversing one of the most rugged islands in the world from the east to west crossing jungles, hills, mountain, rivers, rapids, and wilderness. We will be trekking to the lush of Borneo jungle with diversity of vegetation and animal wildlife.

We will use land transportation, public houseboat and chartered motorized canoe to access the jungle for roughed days trekking. We will sleep in the jungle and simple houses of the villagers with basic facilities, we will be trekking in tough and mostly wet trails, those are the only way to appreciate the primary jungle of Borneo with the most traditional Dayak tribe settlements as well as the exotic wildlife of the jungle itself.

However, the reward of the trip is the romance of the journey itself, combination of river travel with long stretches of rapids, the experience of jungle trekking, wildlife exploration, as well as interacting with the Dayak people who accept visitors with their friendly attitude and hospitality that tend to make visitors immediately feel at home in their midst. Therefore, good level of fitness, strong sense of determination, and of course the spirit of adventure are the conditions for accomplishing this challenging trip.

Sonderexpedition Cross-Borneo

Hi Bruno,
I have just returned from our Cross Borneo - Orang-utan Expedition, and so many thoughts are swirling in my head I can hardly sleep. It was truly a challenging but wonderful trip, all I had hoped for and much more. I enjoyed being the only tourist everywhere but felt warm welcome in all communities. During the jungle part you have ever had a helping hand, an encouraging smile or joke for me and so I could manage the slippery and steep ways despite weak shaky knees. Thanks again for your patience with me when I am tired after a hard day and didn’t help so much I maybe should. I enjoyed our conversation about nature, culture, history and religion in the evenings in jungle and during the days on boats. And I could feel you love your land, the nearly impenetrable jungle, the small and big animals and birds and the people we met.

Thank you so much for all your help in planning, coordinating and dealing with my endless questions and needs. Thanks too for handling all the changed flight arrangements.

Anyway, it was truly a life-changing experience, I learnt a lot about me and my energy and of course what it means to be middle in nowhere, in mud with leeches and pepper-ants but with friends at a small fire. You made an uncomfortable place on a river side to a homely camp.
Also the Orangutan part in Tanjung Puting National Park with the houseboat was great. Of course I enjoyed the huge number of free living Orangutans with their cute babies and the funny proboscis monkeys - but not least all the “luxury” to be clean, nowhere leeches, sitting on a dry boat deck on a soft mattress, getting coffee all the time. And I know I want to return again in the future.

Well, you probably hear this all the time, but I did want to share a little with you. I cannot thank you enough for putting together such a life-altering and amazing journey for me!!!

By the way: thanks from my husband for sending me back from this real survival-trip with no bigger injuries than leech bites ;-)
I encourage everyone (who seems tough enough ;-)) to do with you this Cross borneo - it was really a fabulous trip!

Good luck for you and your business,

Andreas S from Germany
